Day 26 - Sun, Salt and Batik

A view from the top of Menganti, Pantai Beach

The Big Waves of Menganti Beach

Crystal clear water on shore and big waves from afar.

Early morning, the fantastic four of Purwokerto woke up to prepare things for a day trip in a beach. I personally did not bring any extra clothes with me as I don’t have any plans of swimming in a back as of the moment. The night before the trip, I thought that we will be going to Cilacap which is the nearest beach in Purwokerto but to my surprised, our car turned left going and traveled the road going Yogyakarta. I opened my phone and launched Google map application. I noticed that we are going to an area part of Kebumen regency. After two hours on the road we finally had a glimpse of the beach from the top of mountain side. Few more minutes and we finally arrived to our destination. We were greeted by a big signage of the resort stating “Welcome to Menganti Beach”. We are in awe as the area is surround by big boulders and cliffs. The beach line has a lot of rough rocks and most of it are slippery. We carefully step on to one rock to another as we try to look for a perfect spot for taking picture. The huge billows of waves are like monsters hitting some of the big rocks at the side of a cliff creating a mist like image. Water is so blue and on the horizon, you can see the sea meets with the sky. The beach is ideal for surfing due to its big waves forming a cloud nine but not much suitable for swimming due to the rough rocks on its beach line or probable we arrived in the beach during low tide.

A Picturesque View for the Top

A high vantage point to see a wider view of the beach line

After few minutes of taking some pictures while standing on some rocks in the beach line, we rode a shuttle going uphill to find a better vantage point of the resort. It took 5 minutes to reach the seemingly highest part of the resort although not really the highest part but it is highest for some people who don’t want to take a risk of climbing the peak of a nearby mountain. Upon reaching the place, we are welcomed by a beautiful panoramic view of the resort. From the top, you can see the sea water tossed as it hits the black rocks at the bottom of the cliff. The view is similar to some postcards sold in the country. We did not might bathing our self under the sun as we really enjoyed taking some shots of the place.

Seafood Diet

Past the hour of 12 and we feel hungry. We head to a known sea-food eatery in Kebumen. On the menu are crabs, fish, lobsters, shrimp, squid and some vegetables. We munched all the seafood served on our plate. I feel so happy because at last, after eating so many chicken meat for the past weeks, finally the streak was broken. I just love seafood.

Batik Shopping

After our sun-burning activity, Pingpong, Mass and I decided to buy some souvenirs. It is just few more days before we travel back home and we want to bring something as a souvenir to our friends and Family. We were accompanied by Mas Kahfi and some UMP buddies going to Batik Anto Djamil in Sokaraja. It is 15-20 minutes away from Purwokerto. Upon arriving at the store, we saw a lot of batiks with different design on display. They are also not just selling batik polo and dresses but they are also selling batik fabrics and items such as purses and bags made of batik. Indonesia is known for batik and it is their official fabric. They normally wear one during school days, office days and special gatherings. There is also a unique batik design per regency.

Social Night with Buddies

Fantastic Four with UMP Buddies

Done purchasing batik for our friends and family. We are so happy with the stuff that we bought because their prices are affordable. We went back to UMP Mess together with our buddies. We dined our bakso together for dinner and shared one of the local delicacy here in Purwokerto made of egg. One of the buddies brought an UNO cards and we played it. We enjoyed the night socializing and getting to know more one another while playing. A night full of fun and smiles indeed.
